I opened a complete terrain and world file from one of the web sites I found by googling here. I'm showing the image from the web site and then my render. It's unbelievable. This is a map of Illinois that I imported with Firmament. The view is across Lake Michigan. since the map is so large and the county lines are drawn, the landportions are affected by those black lines. I noticed that I had neglected to expand the sky to avoid the black space on the horizon so I tried to go back and change that. Not successful so I tried another view of the lake and this is the result. It might be a good image to add to later on.

I'm going to try another map without these lines to see how it comes out. I took a portion of the New Zealand map,(shown in the first image) converted it to greyscale and imported it with Firmament. The view is from the ocean to the coast. Very rough but I've never been there and that may be how it is. My render is shown as well.

The series of explanations and links to various programs and examples of Terragen work were absolutely fascinating. I will, when I get time, look at these much more carefully but I think right now I need to concentrate on the basics. The following is an example of some post work I did in PSP. The original is shown first and then I warmed up the landscape, added some trees and a sunburst. Less is better I guess because I couldn't think of anything else. Could have chosen an easier picture, I guess. Great fun. As I get more time I will add some other images but, for now, this is it.
This was a great course and I'd recommend it to anyone. Hopefully, there will be more advanced courses offered in time, but in the meantime I need a lot more practice.
