Week One - Modifying Selections and the History Pallette

The first two samples are showing the results of using the various modifications in the selection box. First is a gif where the blue background color was removed. I also am showing the same version in png format.

I tried the various methods on a picture of Mirror Lake and had no luck with the color selection method because apparently there are various shades of blue inthe sky. I used the Freehand Selection Tool instead. On the sky I deleted the color and on the reflection I first promoted the selection and erased it on the original image. I then added a layer on the bottom flood-filled with a rainbow gradient. I filled the promoted selection with the same gradient and did a few things with it to make it darker than the sky. I then used Flaming Pear Flood to give more of an appearance of water and blend the new sky reflection in. The original picture is, of course, more striking.

Week Two-Background Eraser Tool

This week we learned all the nuances of the background eraser tool and how to successfully remove the background from an image. In the past I've had a lot of trouble primarily with photographs and this really showed the various methods. The most important think I learned was to click around the image and not have the center of the brush go over the edge. Only when you are far away should you sweep the tool.

Samples show the results of using this tool on the lilac bush and on another photo of my own.

The above are examples of the work done in Lesson Three with Balls and Bubbles. Lots of fun and so much more than I ever thought of.
