Our second trip in 2002 was to Spain with the World Wide Country Tours group. This is probably the last tour to Spain they will run since they were only able to sign up eleven people. This made it much easier to get acquainted and we were probably able to go to different places than a larger group could have gone.

We left from Philadelphia and arrived in Madrid the next morning. The tour didn't give us any time in Madrid but I guess that is because it is a Country Tour and I expect, to keep costs down, the avoided the really big cities. We were pleased to see that our bus was quite large and comfortable. I was afraid with so few people we might get stuck with a bus like we had in Costa Rica where they shifted us around and someone had to sit over the rear wheel where there was no leg room whatsoever. We all piled into the bus and we were off to Segovia for the first night. We stayed at the Hotel Los Linajes where we had to leave the bus and walk down a hill because the road was so narrow. We took a city tour and especially enjoyed the Alcazar The room was nice, the views very nice but in the evening we discovered the roof where the views were spectacular. It was marvelous in the dark but I couldn't get any pictures. The next day I went back up and took pictures of the area from there. The Roman Acqueduct was an impressive site in Segovia, we spent quite a bit of time there the second day before we left for Salamanca. It was by all acounts built in the 1st century BC and carries water 14 kilometers from the Fuenfria River to the high part of the city where the Alcazar stands today.
