Masks and Texture

mask and texture

This tutorial is the property of hollys closet.com and is for your pleasure. You are welcome to link to it but do not claim it as your own.

What you'll need:

  1. PSP (I use version X but this can be done in any version)You can get a preview copy of version X2 Here
  2. A tube of your choice. I've used one by Mademoiselle Nuit. Her website is http://mademoiselle-nuit.deviantart.com and you can view her Terms of Use there. Whatever artist you decide to use be sure you have permission to use their work and always remember to credit the artist on your tags in the fashion they require.
  3. The masks I used are from Essex Girl at http://www.essexgirl.uk.com/index.shtml. You can download them here and here Right click the image and Save As to the folder you've set aside for this tutorial.
  4. The texture "stone pavement" was included in the PSP9 folders but if you don't have it you can select another texture.
  5. All settings will remain the same unless otherwise stated.

Preparation

  • Open PSP,open your tube and the masks provided.
  • Shift/D to copy tube, close the original without saving changes.
If the copyright and tuber information is on the same layer as your image, use the selection tool to select them Edit/Cut/Paste as a new Image.
You can use this later to add the copyright back to your tag.
  • From your tube select a dark color as the foreground and a light color for your background in your materials palette.

Now we're ready so let's begin.

Step 1
Open a new image 500x500 transparent.
Floodfill with your background color(light).
Open a new raster layer and floodfill with your foreground color(dark).
File/Save As with your final file name.
Remember to save often.

Step 2

Layers/New Mask Layer/From Image
Select the diagonal lace mask and click on invert.
Layers/Merge/Merge Group
Repeat the drop shadow and inner bevel as before.
It should look something like this.
Background Image
Step 4

Highlight bottom layer and duplicate it. Hide the original.
Layers/Merge/Merge Visible
Image/Canvas Size/
700x700 Top Left Corner
Highlight the bottom layer
Return the foreground color to the original.
If you have any trouble,
just select the color from this layer.
Floodfill
Step 5

Highlight the bottom layer
Selections/Select All
Effects/Textures/Texture/
select the stone pavement
stone pavement, 100% 5, 2, 0, 0, background color, 315, 50, 30
Step 6
Restore your tube.
Resize it if necessary.
Copy/Paste as a New Layer.
Depending on the size and qualities of your tube,
move it around or resize it further.
Mine was the right size to fill from top to bottom
Effects/3D/Drop Shadow using the same settings
except change the V and H to 4.
Repeat with V and H at -4.
Step 7

At this point you might want to crop the image a bit.
Resize to 500 on the longest side.
Add any copyright and watermark each on a new layer.
Save/Export it as a jpeg file.
I decided after all was done to merge visible and Effects/3D/Buttonize to give it more of a finished look.
And you're finished.

Here is another sample I did to test the tutorial.
