Week Five

Our lesson began with flood fill instructions. We did exercises changing the tolerance level and then changing the opacity with a gradient background. Following are examples.

Then we tried a gradient over a solid background and then various patterns over a solid as well.

Next we used the Warp Mesh Tool. I am proud to say I was able to make the cat this time. I had a terrible time last year and finally pasted some ears on him in desperation. This time I'm very happy with him.

The warp tools weren't as successful for me. I chose my cousin's beautiful rose and expanded it out by warping some of the petals underneath. I think it looks very nice. But when I tried the unwarp and iron-out tools I didn't see much difference. I was, however, able to use the expand/contract/twirl and noise tools.

Abby Apple

Abby Apple - Extra Credit

Abby started with a green apple. I used the Mesh Warp tool several times over the course of developing her because certain parts of her face needed some tweaking as I progressed. I took a lips picture tube I had and erased the part that was going around the other side and then augmented it with the paint brush. The eyebrows are the Curl preset, the eyes Rollie's cats eyes augmented with white behind and blue iris and black pupil. I drew the eyelashes and the nose and cheek. All the time I reopened the mesh warp tool and kept moving the dimensions of the head around to accomodate the shape that was developing. Used paint brush curly hair preset and the floral one for the ruffle. A lot of fun.
