HELP NEEDED FOR NEGLECTED, ABUSED AND ABANDONED CHILDREN

We’ve all heard and read about children shuttled from foster home to foster home. An organization is helping some of these children in Carroll County and elsewhere. Russ Sarner made a presentation at the Labor Day Women’s Club Meeting explaining the way CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) can help these and other children who are often lost in the system due to the lack of time or funds which cause harried social workers, police, parents and foster parents to leave them in an impossible situation. This often causes the child to get in trouble and continue to be in trouble for the rest of their lives.

CASA volunteers seek out the details and submit a report to the judge recommending the best possible result for the individual child. The goal is to see the child has the best safe, permanent home available to him or her. To volunteer you must be 21 years of age or older, attend a 32-hour training session and an 8-hour courtroom observation before being certified. You are also required to commit for one year of service.

Classes will begin in October at the First Baptist Church in Carrollton, Monday and Thursday, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. This is a very rewarding way to spend your time and, if you're interested, call Russ Sarner
