WE’RE BURIED IN LITTER
Any of you who do any walking (and riding) around our neighborhoods have noticed that litter has become an even greater problem than in the past. We can blame this on the construction workers and that is probably a valid but partial assumption, but we can all do something to help with the problem. First of all, DON’T LITTER and second, PICK UP ANY LITTER THAT’S ALREADY THERE.
Many of us carry a plastic bag with us on our walks and bring our “treasures” home to dispose of properly. If you are having work done on your home or it is under construction, talk to the contractor and ask his help in providing waste containers and getting their workers to dump the trash in them.
We can have all kinds of codes and restrictions on lawns and types of construction, but if these lovely places and our unimproved lots are covered with cans, bags and drink containers, we won’t have a beautiful community. Have some pride and let’s see what we can accomplish.
There are signs stating that there is currently a $100 fine for littering. This is for a first offense and it’s $200 for the second. Are these signs helping and, if not, should we have more and/or better signs? Call the POA office and let them know what you think.
I guess if we see someone in the act and report them this could be a deterrent, but maybe the solution is every one of us taking time to see that our neighborhoods are clean. It could be a good influence.
