UTILITIES OFFER DISCOUNTS
Southern Bell has announced a program (Link-Up Georgia) allowing a $7 monthly credit on local access fees to individuals who receive Medicaid, food stamps or the Senior Citizen's discount from their local gas and/or power company. To be eligible, telephone service must be billed in your name. Another program called "Lifeline" allows up to 100% reduction on residential telephone service.
Both Carroll EMC and Douglas EMC offer rebates for persons who allow a demand control switch to be installed on their central air conditioner or heat pump. Only Carroll EMC, however, offers a Senior Citizen's discount. (Members who are 65 or older are eligible.) For this reason, only Fairfield residents using Carroll EMC are eligible for the Southern Bell credit based on the Senior Citizen's discount. To sign up for these programs or for further details call: Southern Bell......., Carroll EMC......., or Douglas EMC.......

LOOKING OUT FOR ONE ANOTHER
Of the various community efforts to curb crime and public nuisances, the most widely used is surveillance by residents. The primary goals of neighborhood crime watch programs are to prevent burglaries and damage to property, to increase crime reporting, and to utilize the residents as the eyes and ears of the community. Effective crime prevention is attainable only through broad-based community awareness and involvement.
To help promote this theory into a realization, Mr. Alonzo Dozier has accepted the post of Neighborhood Watch Chairman. In the coming weeks Mr. Dozier will be soliciting concerned residents to serve as Section Captains and to assist him in formulating programs. Interested residents who wish to contribute their services and/or ideas should contact Mr. Dozier through the POA office.

BOOKMOBILE UP AND RUNNING
After almost a year of up and down service, the Bookmobile Bus arrived as scheduled on Wednesday, January 10 in the clubhouse parking lot. Apparently, the difficult-to-diagnose problem that caused the bus to stop dead was finally fixed by an out-of-county bus company.
For some time, I have wanted to remind my neighbors of the fabulous benefit of the once-a-month (every second Wednesday from 9:30 am to 10 am) visit of the Bookmobile. The bus comes supplied with a large selection of current books in standard print, large print and paperback. Aside from the convenience, you can submit a list of books you are interested in and get on a waiting list. This allows you to read the latest best sellers and to keep them for one month. We also have an active trading system among ourselves so that there are always plenty of books to read.
To take advantage of this service, come to the club parking lot at 9:30 am on Wednesday, February 14.
