LOCAL ARTIST SHOWS PAINTINGS

Members of the Plantation Art Group met with Bella M. Romain at their regular meeting Saturday, June 8 at the Recreation Center. Ms. Romain, proprieter of the DesignPlus business design firm, and the group shared the various ways they are inspired to pain and the methods used. Later she displayed several landscapes and one abstract painting and described where they were painted and her own techniques. We are looking forward to future programs involving other types of creativity

The Art Group will not meet for the rest of the summer and will begin again in October. Look for details in the September Plantation Press.

PARKING, DISASTER PLAN AND KUDZU

The POA Board is examining several issues of concern to property owners and the following is excerpted from George Pleat's report at the POA meeting:

PARKING - Currently the Declaration of Restrictions restricts parking of certain vehicles on lot premises. It is not clear if this includes RV's, boats, trailers, etc. as well as trucks. If these are included, options may be off -site parking determined by the owner or a designated parking area within Fairfield determined and developed by the POA.

DISASTER PLAN - With all the attention on natural disasters of late, we are looking at plans in the event a disaster should occur at Fairfield. Such disasters could be tornadoes, fires, plan crash and snow/ice storms and others. A plan has previously been developed and in effect for several years. We want to determine its adequacy, add to it or broaden it if need be. We believe such a plan should incorporate the roles of all the resources available to the POA and should include the means by which the residents can be effectively notified and evacuated if it is deemed necessary.

KUDZU - As you know, we in Fairfield have some brilliant displays of Kudzu. It is of concern because of its uncontrolled growth and dispersion. We are looking to define the problem and determine any solutions and evaluate the effectiveness and cost of them. At the moment there does not appear to be an easy or effective solution but we should start looking.

NEEDED...VOLUNTEERS, FOOD AND BAGS

At a recent Kiwanis meeting, Bobbye Jean Warford spoke about the Carroll County Soup Kitchen located at 1014 Dixie Street. Many of our Fairfield residents voluteer through their churches, one day a month, from 9:00 am and 12:30 pm, preparing and serving hot lunches to the needy. From January to November the Kitchen is open the last full week of the month and, in December, food boxes are distributed to families who sign up in November.

The Kitchen is sponsored by the Carroll County Association of Churches. It receives no support from government agencies and depends solely on donations of money, food and volunteer services. Donations of day-old bread are received from Krogers, Bruno's and Fresh Value grocery stores. Southwire provides the building and maintains it and the equipment at a minimal rate.

There are no paid personnel and at least 25 volunteers are needed each day they are open, since 2500 to 3500 lunches are served each week. Patrons are not required to prove need or complete any paperwork.

Apart from volunteering to serve, the community should be aware that donations of food, including leftovers from parties, wedding or banquets, either canned, frozen or fresh are needed. If there's another power failure and you have food to contribute, they will pick it up. You can also request paper bags at the grocery, fold them neatly and bring them to the Soup Kitchen. This will save them 6 cents a bag.

Donations for the Christmas Boxes are also needed. Last year 567 boxes were distributed and a larger number is expected this year. Bring you Christmas contributions December 11th to 15th, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. They will be packed December 17th and 18th and distributed on the 19th.

Donations will be accepted at any time and if you have something to contribute, would like to volunteer or need more information call Bobbye Jean Warford....... or Frank Hollady.......
