Stop billboard blight

A recent article in the Atlanta Journal pointed out the problems many Atlanta metro-area counties are having with controlling billboards.

I have recently noted large billboards along Route 61 including some advertising from my own community, Fairfield Plantation.

The beauty of the construction of Route 61 was that it cleaned out some of the untidy look of the old road and I now fear we will be seeing more and more of these billboards. It would be a pity to see the lovely countryside turned into "an ugly calamity that is confusing and distracting to drivers," as Eva Galambos of Sandy Springs Clean and Beautiful describes Roswell Road and similar commercial strips.

Isn't there something Carroll County can do to prevent this before it gets a foothold and we lose the beauty of our highways
